If your Vespa's speedometer has started jumping around, reading inaccurately, or stopped working altogether, there's a good chance this small plastic gear is the culprit. It lives inside the front wheel hub and drives the speedometer cable, and because it's plastic it does wear down over time, especially on bikes that have covered a lot of miles. The good news is it's one of the cheapest and most satisfying fixes you can do on a modern Vespa.

This is the genuine OEM Piaggio part, 12 teeth, same as what came in your bike from the factory. At under ten dollars it's the kind of part worth having on hand before you need it, particularly if you're doing a front wheel or fork service and the hub is already apart. While you're in there it costs you nothing extra to swap it out and know it's fresh.

Installation requires removing the front wheel and opening up the hub area, which is a moderate job for a home mechanic. If you're not sure whether this is your issue, a quick visual inspection of the gear teeth will usually tell you right away whether it's worn or stripped.
